Changing the way we wear fragrance - one molecule at a time

I’ve been having a lot of fun playing around with all the samples I received at The Beautiful Mind Series event with The Perfume Society at Jovoy Mayfair last month.

The Escentric Molecules discovery set was included in the gift bag and those have been my favorite fragrances to test out.

Each “Molecule” scent (Molecules 01 - 04) uses only a single aromachemical molecule (mixed with water and perfumers alcohol) to allow the molecule to really shine in isolation. Perfumer Geza Schoen selected 4 different molecules (Iso E Super, Ambroxan, Vetiveryl Acetate, Javanol) that are influential in perfumery and are robust, intricate, and very beautiful in their own right.

The “Escentric” fragrances (Escentric 01-04) are scents that highlight the same 4 molecules but use a few other notes to support the main molecules. They were composed to allow the main molecule to stand out and guide the fragrance. Escentric 03 celebrates the Vetiveryl Acetate molecule and is supported by top notes of Mexican lime, ginger root, and green peppercorn, middle notes of Egyptian jasmine, orris, and tea, and base notes of sandalwood, cedar, leather, and musk. A unique interpretation of a cypher, this fragrance really celebrates the dry, woody, and spicy yet fresh characteristics of vetiver.

I must say that although I like the Escentric fragrances, I absolutely love the Molecules on their own and I personally prefer wearing them solo. (Or even layering a couple of them at once.) Molecule 01 - Iso E Super - is perhaps the MVP of the team. It’s probably the most well known, very popular, and well, it’s great. I love it. But I also love Molecule 02 - Ambroxan - and Molecule 04 - Javanol. When I put Molecule 02 on for the first time my husband was obsessed. Warm, woody, amber, light and alluring. Molecule 04 is warm and woody but in a deeper, more luscious and almost gourmand way - it is a modern interpretation of sandalwood. I love that you can put a dab of one of the Molecules on in the morning and it lasts all day but is never overpowering or too intense, even at first application. Sometimes I layer Molecule 02 and 04 to make a rich and woody cocktail that keeps my nose interested and inspired for hours.

I highly recommend the Escentric Molecules line and if you can get your hands on the fragrance discovery set, it’s a lot of fun to play with!
